The Birth of the Village Plan

Since 1995, the Fort Harrison Reuse Authority has worked with planners, the City of Lawrence, residents, and area business owners to develop and implement the master plan for a mixed-use village. During public input sessions, citizens stated their desire for a comfortable “village-feel” area to be used for a gathering place. Preservation of the military and Fort’s history was also very important.

The result was the Master Plan for Lawrence Village at the Fort which was adopted in 2006 and serves as the basis for the creation of a mixed use urban village in the heart of Lawrence, Indiana.
